LAHORE: In light of recent heavy rains and potential flood risks across Punjab, Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has taken urgent preventive measures by deploying dedicated flood monitoring teams, which remain on 24/7 alert.

Alerts have been issued in various flood-prone areas including Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Narowal ,Okara and other cities where urban flooding and rising water levels in canals and drains are a concern. All Smart Safe Cities across the province are actively engaged in ensuring public safety and are working in close coordination with the district administrations and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). Surveillance of flood conditions is being carried out through a network of over 600 state-of-the-art CCTV cameras installed throughout the province, with special focus on low-lying and sensitive areas. Thermal drones operated by Safe Cities are being utilized in areas where water levels have risen to dangerous levels or where there is a risk of people being stranded. These drones assist in identifying affected individuals and help guide rescue operations effectively. Real-time alerts regarding potential hazards are being continuously shared by the Safe City Centers with PDMA to ensure timely and effective response. The Smart City control rooms are providing instant updates on rainfall, water accumulation, and possible urban flooding to relevant authorities and rescue services. Citizens are strongly advised to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, especially during periods of heavy rainfall or flood warnings.
