Zainab had worked as a maid in a house in Sheikhupura when she was very young. She faced physical abuse and was badly treated. Feeling unsafe, she ran away from the house.
A kind police officer saw her walking alone on the street and took her to the Child Protection Bureau. The “Mera Pyara” team used digital records and databases to find her family. After hard work and many efforts, Zainab was safely reunited with her parents. The “Mera Pyara” system is connecting data from welfare organizations across Pakistan to help lost or abandoned children find their families quickly. In the first phase, over 200 welfare organizations in Punjab have been registered in the system. So far, full records of more than 1,400 missing or homeless people have been added to the “Mera Pyara” database. The “Mera Pyara” team is working day and night to find missing children and safely return them to their families. Public awareness campaigns are also being run on social media and other platforms to help spread the message. Citizens are requested to call Helpline 15 or contact the nearest police station if they see or know about any missing or abandoned child, so that timely action can be taken.
