LAHORE: A major theft in Sialkot was solved within two days with the help of Safe City cameras and swift police action. Three suspects were arrested, and all stolen valuables recovered. According to details, a theft occurred at the house of Sheikh Abdul Jaleel in the Mubarakpura area of Sialkot. The victim had gone out with his family, and upon returning, he found the doors open and valuables missing, which included Rs. 5 million in cash, foreign currency, and 31 tolas of gold jewellery. victim immediately reported the incident to the emergency helpline 15. Acting promptly, the police reached the crime scene and sought assistance from the Safe City cameras. During the investigation, Safe City footage revealed a woman fleeing the scene in a rickshaw. Using the advanced AI-based Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system, the rickshaw and the suspects were traced. The Virtual Patrolling Team of Safe City Sialkot provided all evidence to the police, leading to the swift arrest of the three suspects Hazra, Aliza, and Ahmad Sabir. It was revealed that the arrested individuals are siblings and close relatives of the complainant. During interrogation, the stolen items were recovered, including Rs. 5 million in Pakistani currency, foreign currency from 10 different countries (including US Dollars, Euros, British Pounds, Japanese Yen, South Korean Won, Saudi Riyals, Indian Rupees, Singapore Dollars, and Egyptian Pounds), and 31 tolas of gold jewellery. All recovered items have been handed over to the rightful owner. According to a Safe City spokesperson, the Smart Safe City Centers and modern technology are playing a vital role in ensuring immediate crime tracing and prevention across Punjab.
