LAHORE: A meeting of the District Peace Committee was held at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh under the chair of Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana and Commissioner Zaid Bin Maqsood to review security and administrative preparations for Muharram-ul-Haram.

The meeting was attended by high officials including Deputy Commissioner Lahore Syed Musa Raza, CTO Athar Waheed, DIG (Operations) Muhammad Faisal Kamran, SSP (Operations) Tassawur Iqbal, SP (Dolphin Squad), SP (Headquarters), divisional SPs (Operations) and others. Members of the peace committee including Agha Shah Hussain Qazilbash, Maulana Muhammad Ali Naqshbandi, Mufti Imran-ul-Hassan, Mufti Imran Hanafi, Syed Ali Mehdi, Hafiz Muhammad Zubair, Maulana Mahmood-ul-Hassan and Khurram Naqvi were present. The session was also attended by representatives of the district administration, license holders and organizers of processions and gatherings.
Key matters discussed included maintaining law and order during Muharram, ensuring overall security and addressing any anticipated challenges.
CCPO and Commissioner assured full cooperation in resolving issues such as roads patchwork, removal of encroachments, installation of street lights, prevention from electric current in poles during monsoon and drainage problems. He directed finalization of timings for religious gatherings, traffic management and parking plans at the earliest.
The meeting also reviewed security arrangements including deployment of security staff at Imambargahs, installation of walkthrough gates, metal detectors and CCTV cameras. The CCPO directed the divisional SPs to maintain close coordination with peace committee members and procession organizers to ensure peace at the grassroots. With the collective cooperation of religious scholars, community leaders, the district administration and law enforcement agencies, Muharram would be observed peacefully, he maintained.
The CCPO stated that foolproof security will be provided to Majalis, processions and participants. Ensuring peace and religious harmony was a shared responsibility and that strict adherence to designated routes and scheduled timings will be enforced, he said. He added that each gathering and procession must have designated entry and exit points with proper security. Effective screening of participants will also be ensured with the cooperation of organizers and volunteers from concerned Imambargahs. Lady police and female volunteers will also be deployed for the security and screening of women and children.
Commissioner Zaid Bin Maqsood appreciated the efforts of the District Peace Committee members and religious scholars for maintaining harmony and assured full support from the district administration for timely resolution of issues. He emphasized that the district administration and police will work in close coordination to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram.
