PESHAWAR (Web News) — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will proceed with its planned Sept. 27 protest, with the party expected to announce its detailed strategy on Sept. 25.
Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar, Afridi said peaceful protest was a constitutional and legal right and alleged that PTI was being subjected to discriminatory treatment.
He said the party would participate in the Sept. 27 demonstration in large numbers, adding that PTI workers had no reason to fear and that the planned march would go ahead.
Afridi said the party had no intention of confrontation and was pursuing its demands through peaceful and democratic means.
He warned that any use of firearms could lead to further violence and said the prevailing political tensions could have serious consequences for the country.
The KP chief minister also criticised statements by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, saying PTI workers were not terrorists and that the party was exercising its constitutional and democratic right to raise its voice for what it described as justice.
Afridi said PTI would continue its political struggle through peaceful means and urged authorities to avoid steps that could further increase tensions.
