Rising tension: Russia deploys nuclear-capable Oreshnik missiles in Belarus amid NATO tensions

NEW YORK (Web Desk) – Moscow is reportedly positioning nuclear-capable hypersonic ballistic missiles, known as Oreshnik, at a former airbase in eastern Belarus. U.S. researchers, using satellite imagery, identified the deployment, confirming earlier assessments by American intelligence regarding Russia’s expanding nuclear footprint in Europe.

The decision to move these missiles into Belarus is widely viewed as a strategic calculation by President Vladimir Putin at a time of escalating geopolitical strain with NATO. Analysts say the Kremlin is seeking to counter extensive Western military assistance to Ukraine, which continues to pursue long-range weapons capable of striking inside Russian territory.

Experts argue that the relocation has greater political weight than military value, reflecting Moscow’s broader strategy of increasing nuclear signaling. With major negotiations on international arms control expected ahead, Russia’s latest move underscores the erosion of the post-Cold War power equilibrium.
