Rain, thunderstorms forecast across Punjab from October 10 to 14

LAHORE: The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert for several districts, forecasting rain, strong winds and thunderstorms from October 10 to 14.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, a westerly weather system is expected to enter the country’s upper regions on Saturday, bringing rain to several parts of Punjab.
Rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is forecast for October 10, 11, 13 and 14 in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal and Mianwali.
Faisalabad, Khushab, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh are also expected to receive intermittent rain, strong winds and thunderstorms on October 10, 11 and 13.
PDMA Director General Saif Anwar Jappa has directed divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners to remain alert, particularly in Murree, Galiyat and other hilly areas, where landslides are possible.
The authority said district administrations had been alerted in line with the chief minister’s instructions. The health, irrigation, communications and works, local government and livestock departments have also been directed to remain prepared for potential emergencies.
PDMA issues safety advisory
Jappa urged residents to take precautionary measures during adverse weather and avoid staying in dilapidated or mud-built houses.
People have been advised to seek shelter in safe locations during strong winds and storms and avoid unnecessary travel.
Residents should stay away from open areas during thunderstorms to reduce the risk of lightning strikes. Parents have also been urged to keep children away from low-lying areas, exposed electrical wires and power poles.
The PDMA advised citizens to follow official weather updates and safety instructions throughout the forecast period.
