LAHORE – The Punjab government has facilitated driving licence applicants by introducing an online tracking facility that allows them to check the status of their applications from home without visiting traffic licensing offices for routine updates.
The service operates through the Driving Licence Information Management System (DLIMS), enabling applicants to monitor the progress of their licence applications using their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) numbers.
The initiative is intended to make the licensing process more convenient, reduce unnecessary visits to government offices and help applicants determine whether their licences are being processed, awaiting printing or have been dispatched for delivery.
Applicants can access the tracking facility online by providing their identification details and completing the required security verification. The system then displays the available information about the current status of their driving licence applications.
How to check driving licence status online
Applicants can follow a simple procedure to check their licence status through the DLIMS tracking facility.
First, they should search online for “DLIMS Tracking” and open the official Punjab driving licence tracking portal. They should ensure that they are using the authorised government website before entering any personal information.
Next, applicants must enter their 13-digit CNIC number without dashes in the designated field. They are then required to complete the CAPTCHA security verification displayed on the screen.
After entering the information, applicants should select the “Track License” option to view the latest status available in the system.
The displayed information helps applicants understand the stage their applications have reached and whether further processing or delivery is pending.
The facility is particularly useful for people who live far from licensing centres or have difficulty making repeated visits simply to obtain an update.
What does ‘printing queue’ mean?
One of the status messages applicants may encounter is “Your regular license is in printing queue”.
This message indicates that the driving licence application has reached the stage where the licence is awaiting printing. It does not necessarily mean that the physical licence has already been printed or dispatched.
Once printing is completed and the licence is sent for delivery, applicants may receive a Pakistan Post tracking number through the system.
The tracking number can then be used on Pakistan Post’s official website to follow the delivery progress and check the latest available information about the shipment.
Applicants are advised to retain the tracking number until their licences have been delivered. If the status does not change for an extended period, they may contact the relevant licensing authority to seek clarification.
Driving tests remain mandatory
Despite the availability of online tracking and efforts to simplify administrative procedures, applicants must still complete the required driving tests and meet the applicable licensing requirements.
The digital facility does not automatically qualify an applicant for a driving licence or exempt anyone from practical driving assessments and other mandatory procedures.
Applicants must follow the prescribed process applicable to their licence category. The main advantage of the streamlined arrangements is that certain steps may be completed more efficiently, potentially allowing the process to be completed within a single day where the relevant requirements and arrangements permit.
However, completion times may vary depending on the type of application, verification requirements and the stage of processing.
Applicants urged to use official channels
The online tracking facility can help reduce uncertainty for people waiting for their licences and make it easier to identify whether an application remains under processing or has moved to the printing and delivery stages.
Applicants should enter their CNIC details only on the official DLIMS portal and avoid sharing personal information with unauthorised websites or individuals claiming to offer faster processing.
They should also check their application details carefully and keep any relevant receipts or reference information available in case they need assistance from the licensing authority.
The introduction of digital tracking reflects the growing use of online services to improve access to government facilities. By allowing applicants to monitor progress remotely, the Punjab government aims to make licence-related services more accessible and reduce the need for unnecessary travel.
