LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly session on Tuesday witnessed sharp criticism from Deputy Speaker Zaheer Iqbal Chanar over the absence of the Secretary Local Government, while the Punjab Higher Education Commission (Amendment) Bill 2025 was unanimously passed.

During the question hour, the Deputy Speaker expressed strong displeasure at the non-appearance of the secretary, questioning whether the official considered himself above the House. He ordered the session adjourned for 30 minutes and directed that the secretary be summoned immediately.
Government member Amjad Ali Javed raised serious allegations of corruption, which were referred to the relevant committee by the Deputy Speaker for further review.
The Deputy Speaker also voiced concern over the worsening situation in Bahawalpur, saying the city remained submerged in water while no responsible officers had visited the affected areas. He questioned whether the city was being neglected despite being part of Punjab.
The Assembly unanimously approved the Punjab Higher Education Commission (Amendment) Bill 2025, setting the age limit for the chairman of the commission at 65 years.
After completing the agenda, Panel of Chairperson Samiullah Khan adjourned the session.
