Incumbent govt initiates working to form standing committees

LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly has been failing to constitute standing committees of the assembly for the last 6 years.
Punjab Assembly former speaker and Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi had been involved in legislation through special committees for four years. According to the details, there are 36 standing committees for legislation in the Punjab Assembly, which the political parties have to assign to their members in a specified proportion.
The bills of laws presented in the assembly are referred to the relevant committees from where the bills are passed after approval.
During the four year tenure of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in 2018, the committees had not formed due to due to disagreement with the opposition.
However, special committees were formed to conclude legislations.
After the government of PTI was dissolved, again the committees could not be formed during the government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and then in the government Chaudhry Parvez Elahi also follow suit.
Now the incumbent government of Maryam Nawaz Sharif in the Punjab has started working to form standing committees and the parties would be represented by their number of seats.[:]
