Officials from the Punjab Assembly Secretariat, Law Department, and Local Government Department attended the meeting.
The committee discussed the bill in detail, which seeks to establish a centralized authority to improve solid waste management, sanitation, cleanliness, and environmental hygiene across Punjab.
The proposed legislation aims to provide a comprehensive legal and institutional framework to modernize waste collection, recycling, and disposal systems in both urban and rural areas of the province.
Members noted that the bill would help enhance inter-departmental coordination, improve public health standards, ensure cleaner cities, promote environmental protection, generate employment in waste management services, and encourage sustainable and climate-friendly waste management practices.
The committee reviewed the bill clause by clause and proposed amendments where required, in line with legal provisions.
