ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The federal government has announced another increase in petroleum prices, raising the rates of both petrol and high-speed diesel under the latest fortnightly review. The revised prices, approved on the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), will take effect from midnight, according to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division.
Under the latest adjustment, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs4.40 per litre, taking the new retail rate to Rs331.52 per litre. Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has gone up by Rs3.62 per litre, bringing the new retail price to Rs378.66 per litre.
The latest increase comes only weeks after another upward revision in fuel prices, continuing a trend that has placed additional pressure on consumers and businesses. During the previous review, petrol prices were raised by Rs6.39 per litre, while high-speed diesel became Rs7.83 per litre more expensive.
Officials said the revised fuel prices were calculated in line with OGRA’s recommendations after reviewing trends in international oil markets and other pricing factors. The Petroleum Division stated that the updated rates would remain in force until the next scheduled review unless further changes are announced.
The increase is expected to have a direct impact on transportation costs across the country. Public transport operators, freight companies and logistics businesses rely heavily on diesel and petrol, meaning higher fuel costs could eventually be reflected in passenger fares and the movement of goods.

High-speed diesel is considered one of the most important fuels for Pakistan’s economy. It is widely used by heavy transport vehicles, buses, trucks, agricultural machinery and industrial equipment. Any increase in diesel prices often affects supply chains and raises the cost of delivering products to markets.
Petrol, meanwhile, is the primary fuel used by private vehicles, motorcycles and ride-hailing services. The latest increase is likely to add to the financial burden on millions of commuters who depend on personal transportation for work, education and daily travel.
Economists say repeated fuel price increases can contribute to broader inflation by increasing production and transportation expenses. As businesses face higher operating costs, the prices of food, household goods and other essential commodities may also rise.
Agricultural experts warn that higher diesel prices could increase farming expenses, particularly during cultivation and harvesting seasons when tractors, tube wells and other diesel-powered machinery are heavily used. Increased production costs may eventually influence food prices in local markets.
Transport sector representatives have also expressed concerns that sustained increases in fuel prices could make it difficult for operators to absorb additional expenses. Many believe that if fuel prices continue to rise, transport fares may require further adjustments to remain financially viable.
Market analysts note that petroleum prices in Pakistan are reviewed periodically and are influenced by international crude oil prices, exchange rate movements, freight costs and applicable taxes and levies. These factors collectively determine the final retail prices announced by the government.
Consumers have voiced concern over the repeated increases, saying higher fuel costs affect nearly every aspect of daily life. Rising transportation expenses often lead to increased prices for groceries, manufactured goods and essential services, reducing household purchasing power.
Businesses are also monitoring the latest development closely, as fuel represents a significant operating expense across multiple sectors. Companies involved in manufacturing, distribution and logistics may face additional cost pressures if international oil prices remain elevated.
With the revised rates taking effect immediately, the latest increase is expected to influence transport and business costs in the coming weeks. Economic observers will continue watching global energy markets and future OGRA reviews for signs of whether fuel prices will stabilize or face further adjustments in the months ahead.
