ISLAMABAD – The federal government has announced a significant increase in the prices of petroleum products, raising the cost of both petrol and high-speed diesel for the next fortnight.
According to the official notification, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs13.18 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) has been made Rs13.80 per litre more expensive.
The revised prices came into effect at midnight following the government’s approval. The adjustment has been made in line with changes in international oil prices and the exchange rate, as reviewed during the latest fortnightly pricing mechanism.
The increase is expected to have a direct impact on transportation costs, agricultural operations and the prices of essential commodities, adding to inflationary pressures already faced by consumers.
Petrol is primarily used by motorcycles, cars and other private vehicles, while high-speed diesel is widely consumed by heavy transport, buses, trucks, railways and agricultural machinery. As a result, higher diesel prices are likely to increase freight charges and the cost of goods across the country.
The Finance Division issued the notification after reviewing recommendations submitted by the relevant authorities, including the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
The latest hike follows fluctuations in global crude oil prices and ongoing adjustments under Pakistan’s petroleum pricing framework.
The new prices will remain in force until the next fortnightly review, unless revised earlier by the government.
