“The atrocities committed against Kashmiris are a stark violation of basic human rights. The world must not turn a blind eye to their plight”

LAHORE— Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Mian Abuzar Shad has called for urgent international intervention to address the ongoing human rights abuses in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking on the eve of Kashmir Exploitation Day, Shad said the critical need for global awareness and action to end the suffering of the Kashmiri people, who have endured years of exploitation.

In a statement issued today, Mian Abuzar Shad condemned the widespread violations of human rights in the region, saying that the international community has a moral obligation to stand with the people of Kashmir. “The atrocities committed against Kashmiris are a stark violation of basic human rights. The world must not turn a blind eye to their plight. It is our collective duty to voice the concerns of those who are unable to speak out for themselves,” he asserted.

Shad termed the situation in Kashmir as dire, pointing to the daily struggles faced by its residents, who have been deprived of their civil liberties and freedoms for decades. He lamented the lack of meaningful global response, arguing that the world’s silence is complicit in the continued oppression of Kashmiris. “The continued silence of the world on this issue is untolrable. The people of Kashmir have been through for too long, and their cries for justice have been ignored. It is high time for the international community to take a stand for human dignity and basic rights,” he stressed.

The LCCI President also raised concerns over the economic exploitation in Kashmir, noting that while Kashmir is rich in natural resources, the benefits of these resources rarely reach the local population. “Kashmir’s resources are exploited, yet its people are impoverished and marginalized. This exploitation is not just a violation of their economic rights but also an attempt to keep the region destabilized and under-developed,” Shad explained.

He highlighted the importance of peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir for the broader region, arguing that unresolved tensions in Kashmir threaten the stability of South Asia as a whole. He asked international organizations like the United Nations to take decisive steps toward a peaceful resolution. “Peace in Kashmir is basic for the stability of South Asia. We call upon the United Nations and other international bodies to step in and ensure that the rights of Kashmiris are protected and that a peaceful solution is achieved,” he added.
