LAHORE: Lahore Police have intensified their crackdown on one-wheelers and racing activities, leading to the arrest of 216 individuals over the past three weeks. In total, 1,846 suspects have been arrested this year for engaging in dangerous stunts and illegal racing on public roads, with 1,701 cases registered.
Capital City Police Officer Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana has assured that operations against one-wheelers and those involved in illegal racing will continue without any discrimination. “We are committed to taking strict action against those indulging in this life-threatening activity,” he said.
To combat the menace of one-wheeling and street racing, key intersections and major roads in the city have been equipped with checkpoints. The Lahore Police have also deployed specialized teams, including the Dolphin Squad and the PRU(Police Response Unit) to actively monitor and deter such illegal activities on the roads.
Bilal Siddique Kamyana further emphasized the importance of utilizing the Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s network to enhance monitoring efforts in preventing one-wheeling and street racing. Additionally, there will be targeted action against mechanics who modify motorcycles for such reckless activities, as directed by the CCPO.
“The youth must refrain from indulging in dangerous stunts, racing and illegal bike modifications,” said Kamyana, stressing that obeying traffic laws is a hallmark of a civilized society.
The authorities also urged the citizens to report any sightings of one-wheelers or illegal racing activities by calling the emergency helpline 15.
