LAHORE — Lahore Police have initiated a crackdown against individuals allegedly involved in uploading fake and objectionable content on social media, particularly targeting public officials and institutions. According to an official statement issued by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the DIG Investigation Lahore, 23 FIRs have been registered in various police stations of the city within the last 24 hours under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).

The action follows directives issued by DIG Investigation Syed Zeeshan Raza, who stated that no leniency will be shown toward those promoting content that is defamatory or incites public unrest. The cases pertain to the alleged creation and dissemination of doctored or offensive videos involving high-profile political and government figures, as well as content deemed critical of state institutions.
DIG Investigation Syed Zeeshan Raza emphasized that the spread of such material is considered a threat to public order and institutional integrity. He said that individuals found involved in such activities will be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The statement further added that the purpose of these actions is to curb activities that may foster social disharmony or promote hatred against institutions. Law enforcement authorities have assured that thorough investigations are being carried out using available digital and forensic evidence.
According to DSP Cybercrime, the cases will be compiled with complete legal documentation and evidence to ensure that prosecution can be pursued effectively in the courts.
The ongoing action forms part of a broader initiative to monitor and regulate online content in line with the provisions of the PECA law, which was enacted to address cybercrime and misuse of digital platforms.
