Lahore police arrest over 3,800 gamblers in 2025 crackdown

LAHORE, Jan 2: The Lahore Police have stepped up a crackdown on gambling during 2025, arresting more than 3,800 suspects in citywide operations.

According to a statement issued by the Lahore Police spokesperson on Friday, a total of 959 cases were registered against individuals involved in gambling across various police stations. During these operations, police recovered over Rs179.49 million in stake money from the arrested suspects.

The divisional breakdown of arrests shows 299 suspects from the City Division, 144 from Cantonment, 125 from Civil Lines, 71 from Saddar Division, 188 from Iqbal Town and 90 from Model Town.

CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana said that indiscriminate action was being taken against those involved in the social evil of gambling. He warned that networks engaged in online gambling were being dealt with “with an iron hand”.

The CCPO said action would be taken against those who involve young people in gambling, adding that modern technology was being employed to enhance surveillance of online gambling.

He reiterated that strict and sustained action would continue at all levels to ensure the complete eradication of gambling and urged the citizens to cooperate with the police in efforts to build a crime-free society.
