LAHORE: Senior Vice President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh, has termed the decline in Consumer Price Index (CPI)-based inflation to 5.6 percent year-on-year in December 2025 as a positive and encouraging development for the national economy.

Commenting on the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the LCCI SVP said that CPI inflation remained stable at 5.6 percent on a year-on-year basis, while recording a 0.4 percent decrease on a month-on-month basis. He noted that the moderation in inflation, largely driven by a decline in prices of essential vegetables, has provided much-needed relief to consumers as well as the business community.
Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh said that the easing inflation trend reflects the impact of improved supply management, better policy coordination and strengthening macroeconomic discipline. He added that lower inflation helps stabilize purchasing power, reduces cost pressures on industry, and creates space for potential monetary easing in the months ahead.
However, he cautioned that seasonal increases in the prices of wheat, eggs, vegetable oil, fruits and dry fruits underline the need for effective supply-chain management, enhanced storage facilities and vigilant market monitoring to prevent price volatility, particularly during periods of high demand.
The LCCI SVP emphasized that sustained control over inflation would support economic growth, boost investor confidence and provide relief to manufacturing and export-oriented sectors that have been struggling with high costs of doing business.
He stressed that going forward, consistent economic policies, fiscal discipline and meaningful structural reforms would be crucial to keeping inflation on a downward path and ensuring that the economic recovery remains on track.
