LAHORE: In collaboration between Faces Pakistan and the United Interfaith Organization, an interfaith gathering was held at the Punjab Institute of Language, Art, and Culture (PILAC). The purpose of the gathering was to support the rehabilitation of flood-affected families across Pakistan, promote national unity, and encourage joint cooperation.
Secretary Human Rights and Minority Affairs, Farid Ahmad Tarar, attended the event as the chief guest. Appreciating the initiative, he emphasized that collective efforts of all religious communities are crucial for effective relief and rehabilitation measures. He strongly condemned India’s water aggression and paid tribute to the Pakistan Army as well as all departments engaged in rescue operations. He added that whenever a crisis strikes Pakistan, a spirit of brotherhood emerges, and people step forward to help their fellow citizens. The joint efforts of Faces Pakistan and the United Interfaith Organization reflect this spirit, which he termed a commendable step.
President of the UIO Dr. Majeed Abel, stressed the importance of unity and national cohesion, stating that Pakistan must stand together as one nation during the current crisis.
Secretary General of UIO Javed William, also expressed solidarity with families affected by floods and heavy rains across Pakistan, lauding the tireless efforts of the Pakistan Army and rescue teams.
General Manager of Faces Pakistan, Ayyub Ejaz, highlighted the aims and objectives of the gathering. On the occasion, Ijaz Gul presented a famous poem by Baba Najmi, while Aftab Javed narrated a story from Nowshera about joint relief efforts made by people of different faiths. The program also featured a documentary by Faces Pakistan titled “People Like the Flag”, based on a true story of interfaith harmony, as well as a theatrical performance depicting the condition of rivers, both of which were highly appreciated by the audience. At the conclusion, Javed William and the Secretary General of UIO thanked the participants and appealed for active support in the relief and rehabilitation efforts in collaboration with Faces Pakistan and UIO, to help ease the suffering of flood-affected fellow Pakistanis. The event was attended by Director Human Rights Muhammad Yousaf, Maulana Asim Makhdum, Professor Syed Mahmood Ghaznavi, Dr. Badar Munir, Pastor Emmanuel Khokhar, principal Sacred Heart school/ president catholic woman organisation Sister Genevieve along with representatives of civil society, academia, and a large number of youth.
