ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has approved former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s bail petition in 190 million pounds National Crime Agency settlement reference.
A two member bench, comprising IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangir, announced the verdict on May 15, 2024.
The National accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed the reference in December last year, accusing Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, among others, of corruption and corrupt practices.
The case revolves around a settlement between the PTI government and a property tycoon, which allegedly caused a loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer. Imran Khan and others are accused of adjusting Rs50 billion, equivalent to 190 million ponds, sent by the NCA to Pakistani government as part of the agreement.
Despite securing bail in this case, Imran Khan will remain behind the bars due to his conviction in other cases.
The development is seen as a relief for Imran Khan and his party, which has been facing intense scrutiny over corruption allegations.
