LAHORE: Deputy Inspector General (Investigation) Syed Zeeshan Reza on Monday said police had solved a major fraud case involving gold worth millions of rupees from traders at the Ichhra Sarafa (gold) market, announcing the recovery of valuables exceeding Rs150 million.
Addressing a press conference at Police Station Ichhra, the DIG said investigators recovered 1,734 grams of gold, more than Rs30 million in cash, and vehicles and other valuable items worth millions of rupees from the accused.
According to the DIG, the suspect fled the market after snatching gold from traders in what he described as a pre-planned crime. He said the accused had sold his house and vehicles before carrying out the offence, indicating an attempt to evade arrest.
Reza said multiple investigation teams were formed immediately after the registration of the first information report (FIR) to track down the suspect. “We ensured the accused could not flee abroad and was arrested at the earliest,” he said.
The DIG added that the investigation relied on both modern technology and human intelligence to ensure maximum recovery. He said around 20 cases were already registered against the accused at the relevant police station.
“Alhamdulillah, the accused is now in police custody, and a strong challan will be prepared to ensure he is brought to justice,” Reza said.
