LAHORE: Every year on March 8, International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide. In 2025, the 114th International Women’s Day was observed. The office bearers of the Pakistan Medical Association organized a ceremony to honor women who have achieved prominence in the fields of healthcare and journalism, paying tribute to their achievements.

The chief guest of the ceremony was Professor Dr. Javeria Manan, who has been serving Thalassemia patients across Pakistan. Other distinguished guests included Professor Dr. Rubina Sohail, Professor Dr. Amira Shami, Dr. Bushra Haq, Dr. Iram Shehzadi, Senior Journalist and President of the National Women Journalists Forum Farzana Chaudhry, Vice President of Lahore Press Club Saima Nawaz, Labor Leader Aima Mehmood, and Dr. Iram Fatima.
In their speeches, PMA officials stated, “2025 symbolizes new opportunities, new identities, and the beginning of a new era for women. Women around the world are not only striving for their rights but also setting new standards of progress and leadership.”
Recognizing women’s professional contributions, senior PMA leaders, including Professor Dr. Ashraf Nizami, PMA Central President Professor Dr. Izhar Chaudhry, former PML-N Senator Dr. Asad Ashraf, PMA Lahore President Professor Dr. Shahid Shaukat, Dr. Wajid Ali (General Secretary PMA), and Dr. Kamran Saeed (President PMA Punjab), presented shields to the chief guest and distinguished women.
Women speakers referred to women as the “Iron Gender of Today” on International Women’s Day. They emphasized that women have demonstrated exceptional performance in traditionally male-dominated fields, proving their strength and capabilities. They are not only fighting for their rights but also playing a vital role in environmental protection. In 2025, women are leading environmental movements, playing a central role in development projects, and contributing to building a better world.
During her address, Farzana Chaudhry, President of Najaf, stated that gender equality has become a solid concept in the modern era, and women are establishing their unique identity in every field of life. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken several significant steps to uphold women’s rights and empower them. She emphasized that government initiatives are essential for women’s economic independence, business growth, and prosperity.
The event was attended by a large number of doctors, including specialists and surgeons such as Professor Dr. Khalid Khan, Dr. Asim Farooqi, Surgeon Sohail, Dr Kamran and Dr. Azhar Bhatti.
