Lahore – Mian Imran Asghar, the Deputy Secretary General of the Pioneer Business Group (PBG) and an importer of industrial saving machines, has become a symbol of change in Lahore’s business politics. Starting his political journey in 2004 under the Azad Group platform, Mian Imran has faced many challenges but has ultimately risen to prominence by restoring respect for common member the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).
In an exclusive interview, Asghar recalled his early days in business politics and the uphill battle he fought against the entrenched interests of Lahore’s business elite. “I began my journey in 2004 with the Azad Group, and from the start, it was clear that the business community was tired of the red-tapism that had plagued the LCCI for decades,” he said. “For too long, decisions were made to benefit a select few, while the majority of traders and industrialists were left unheard.”
Mian Imran credits his determination and the dynamic leadership of Ali Hussam Asghar, the head of the Pioneer Business Group, for the breakthrough. “The dream of restoring power to the common trader came true under the leadership of Ali Hussam Asghar”. He is committed to serving the business community from the core, and his vision aligns with mine—to ensure that every trader, regardless of their size or influence, has a voice.”
Reflecting on his struggle to overcome the dominance of the Founder Group, Asghar expressed his frustration with the roadblocks he encountered. “I was sidelined and sunbed by the top guns of the Founder Group, who believed in keeping power within a closed circle. But I never surrendered. I fought back, knowing that traders and industrialists deserved better representation,” he remarked.
Mian Imran’s perseverance paid off, leading to what he described as a “clean sweep victory” for the Pioneer Business Group. “Our win was unexpected, but it shows the hunger for change within Lahore’s business community. For over 100 years, the business politics of Lahore was governed by an elite class. Now, we have brought revolutionary change, taking power without any compromise or adjustment,” he proudly stated.
Asghar’s focus is now on resolving key issues facing traders and industrialists. “I want the government to address the electricity crisis and the burden of heavy utility bills. Small traders and retailers are particularly affected, and the fixed tax regime needs urgent reform. These issues are huddling the potential of our business community,” he stated.
Mian Imran concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the business community, stating, “PBG’s doors are always open. We are ready to serve and solve the challenges that traders and industrialists face. Our success is not just a change in leadership, but a revolution in how business politics is conducted in Lahore.”
