LAHORE: Opposition Member of the Punjab Assembly Waqas Mehmood has submitted an adjournment motion seeking details of the expenses incurred on Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s London visit in September 2026, raising questions about the use of the provincial government’s aircraft and related financial arrangements.
According to the adjournment motion, submitted on November 5, 2026, Rs27,194,004 was deposited on September 17, 2026, as travel expenses for the chief minister’s London visit.
The motion states that the amount was deposited through a Bank of Punjab cheque bearing No. 2002498721 by Umar Abbas into an account identified as ZGBMRA.
However, it questions why details of the account holder and the relevant account information were not provided along with the payment record.
The motion also raises questions about the purchase price of the aircraft used by the chief minister, its operating expenses and the financial arrangements associated with its use.
It further refers to reports that two foreign pilots have been hired to operate the aircraft, with their combined monthly salaries reportedly amounting to approximately $70,000.
Waqas Mehmood has questioned the financial implications of maintaining the aircraft and sought clarification about the expenditure incurred on the chief minister’s official travel.
The opposition member has also raised questions about the affordability of the London trip in relation to the chief minister’s declared sources of income, calling for transparency regarding the use of public resources.
The motion highlights the need for the provincial government to provide complete details of the aircraft’s purchase, operational costs, travel arrangements and payments made in connection with the London visit.
It seeks permission to discuss the matter in the Punjab Assembly, arguing that the use of public funds for official travel is an important issue requiring legislative scrutiny and accountability.
