KARACHI (Web Desk) – Gold prices recorded a significant decline in Pakistan on Friday, with the domestic per tola rate falling by Rs6,500 following a sharp correction in international bullion markets.

The price of gold dropped to Rs429,136 per tola, while the rate for 10 grams declined by Rs5,573 to Rs367,914, according to the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association.

Internationally, gold prices fell by $65 to $4,066 per ounce, with the decline reflected in local bullion rates.

The latest reduction offers some relief to consumers and jewellery buyers who have faced elevated gold prices in recent months. However, the metal remains expensive for many households, particularly those purchasing jewellery for weddings, family events and traditional savings.

The fall in domestic prices follows the close relationship between Pakistan’s bullion market and international gold rates. Changes in global prices are generally reflected in local markets, alongside other factors influencing the value of gold in the country.

For buyers, the decline could provide an opportunity to reconsider purchases that may have been postponed because of high prices. Jewellery retailers may also see renewed interest from customers who have been waiting for a more affordable market level.

However, market participants are likely to remain cautious because gold prices can change quickly in response to international financial developments, currency movements and investor demand.

Gold is widely regarded as a store of value and is used by investors to protect wealth during periods of economic uncertainty. Its price can be influenced by movements in the US dollar, interest-rate expectations, inflation concerns and geopolitical developments.

International bullion prices also respond to buying and selling by central banks, institutional investors and financial funds. Changes in expectations about monetary policy can influence demand for the precious metal, which does not generate interest or dividends.

In Pakistan, the impact of global price movements can be particularly significant because the country relies on international markets to determine the benchmark value of gold. Exchange-rate fluctuations can further affect the domestic cost of bullion.

The latest decline therefore does not necessarily indicate a lasting downward trend. A further movement in international prices or changes in currency values could alter local rates in the coming sessions.

For the jewellery industry, sharp price fluctuations create challenges for retailers and customers alike. Higher prices can reduce purchasing power, while sudden declines may encourage buyers to wait for further reductions before making decisions.

Jewellers also face difficulties in maintaining stable prices and managing inventory when international markets experience substantial daily movements. Customers purchasing gold for investment purposes may similarly assess whether the decline represents a temporary correction or the beginning of a longer trend.

Despite Friday’s reduction, the per tola rate remained above Rs429,000, keeping gold beyond the reach of some ordinary consumers. The lower 10-gram rate may nevertheless offer some relief to buyers considering smaller purchases.

Market watchers will continue monitoring international bullion prices and currency movements for indications of the direction of domestic rates. Any sustained recovery in global gold prices could quickly reverse some of the latest reduction, while further international weakness may put additional pressure on local quotations.

For now, Friday’s decline marks a substantial single-session adjustment in Pakistan’s gold market, although the longer-term direction remains uncertain.
