KARACHI (Web Desk) – A man was shot dead by two unidentified armed assailants in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area, with CCTV footage of the fatal shooting emerging on Sunday and prompting renewed concerns over street crime and public security in the city.

The incident occurred near Block 13 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, where the victim, identified as Imtiaz, was targeted by armed men riding a motorcycle. He sustained a gunshot wound and died at the scene, according to police.

Investigators said the victim had left his home to purchase bread when the attackers approached him and opened fire. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are being examined as police attempt to establish the motive and identify those responsible.

CCTV footage captures moments before shooting

Footage from a nearby surveillance camera has emerged, showing the victim crossing the road shortly before collapsing near a parked vehicle.

In the video, Imtiaz can be seen moving hurriedly across the street before falling to the ground after reaching the other side.

The footage also shows people in the surrounding area reacting to the sound of gunfire and running towards safer locations.

A motorcyclist is visible speeding past the scene seconds after the shooting. Police are examining the available footage to determine the movements of the suspects and establish what happened immediately before and after the attack.

The CCTV recording is expected to assist investigators in reconstructing the incident and identifying possible escape routes used by the attackers.

Two armed suspects involved in attack

According to the initial police account, two unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on Imtiaz.

One of the bullets struck the victim, causing fatal injuries. Two additional bullets reportedly hit a nearby parked vehicle, indicating that the shooting also endangered people and property in the surrounding area.

Police officials said the suspects fled after carrying out the attack. Their identities and whereabouts had not been established in the initial investigation.

Authorities are examining the crime scene and available evidence to determine the exact sequence of events.

The circumstances of the attack, including whether the victim was specifically targeted or whether the shooting was connected to any personal dispute, remain unclear.

Police launch investigation

Following the incident, police initiated an investigation and began examining CCTV recordings to obtain clues about the identities of the attackers.

Investigators are expected to review footage from nearby buildings, commercial properties and roads to trace the motorcycle’s movements before and after the shooting.

The collection of physical evidence from the crime scene is also an important part of establishing the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Police are examining the victim’s background and personal circumstances to determine whether he had any known disputes, threats or other issues that could help explain the motive.

However, officials have not yet confirmed a motive, and no individual has been publicly identified as responsible for the killing.

Concerns over Karachi street crime

The incident has once again drawn attention to security concerns in Karachi, where residents frequently express concerns about armed robberies, motorcycle-borne criminals and violent incidents in residential and commercial neighbourhoods.

Gulistan-e-Jauhar is a densely populated area with residential blocks, commercial markets and busy connecting roads. Incidents involving armed attackers can create risks for pedestrians, motorists and people carrying out routine daily activities.

The fact that Imtiaz was reportedly on his way to purchase bread when he was targeted has added to the public concern surrounding the incident.

The shooting also highlights the importance of effective surveillance, timely police responses and coordinated efforts to identify suspects involved in violent crimes.

CCTV cameras installed around residential streets and commercial areas can provide investigators with useful information about suspects, their vehicles and movements. However, their effectiveness depends on the quality of recordings, availability of footage and timely investigation.

Investigation continues as suspects remain unidentified

Police are continuing their efforts to determine the motive behind the killing and trace the two unidentified attackers.

Investigators are examining the available CCTV footage and other evidence to establish whether the suspects had followed the victim or approached him shortly before opening fire.

Further investigation is expected to clarify whether the incident was linked to a personal dispute, targeted killing or another criminal motive.

Authorities have yet to announce arrests in connection with the case.

The killing has left the victim’s family facing a tragic loss and raised fresh questions about public safety in the city. Police efforts to identify the attackers and establish the circumstances of the shooting remain ongoing.
