SWAT (Web Desk) – Five members of the same family lost their lives while four others remain missing after a tourist boat capsized at Saifullah Lake in the Kalam region of Swat district. Rescue teams, police officials, and local volunteers are continuing an extensive search operation to locate the missing passengers.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Swat Muhammad Irfan, a total of nine members of one family were traveling on the boat when it overturned in the lake. The incident occurred during what was meant to be a recreational visit to one of the region’s most popular tourist destinations.

Authorities confirmed that the bodies of five victims were recovered near the Mahodand area after an intensive search. The identities of the deceased have not yet been officially released, as authorities are completing legal formalities and informing relatives.

The four remaining passengers are still missing, and rescue teams have been working continuously to trace them. The operation involves personnel from rescue services, police, and local residents familiar with the lake and surrounding terrain. Search efforts have continued despite the challenges posed by deep water and difficult conditions.

Police officials said emergency responders were dispatched immediately after receiving information about the accident. Boats and other rescue equipment have been deployed to search different sections of the lake. Officials expressed hope that the missing individuals would be located as soon as possible.

Saifullah Lake, situated near the scenic Mahodand Lake area in Kalam, attracts thousands of domestic tourists every year because of its natural beauty and pleasant weather. During the summer season, boating is a popular recreational activity for visitors. However, incidents involving boats have raised concerns over safety standards at tourist sites.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the accident. An investigation has been initiated to determine whether the incident resulted from overloading, mechanical failure, adverse weather conditions, or any lapse in safety measures. Officials said all aspects of the tragedy will be examined before a final report is issued.

Local residents joined rescue workers soon after the incident and assisted in recovery efforts. Community volunteers have played an important role by helping search teams navigate the lake and surrounding areas. Their cooperation has been appreciated by district authorities overseeing the operation.

The tragic incident has cast a shadow over the tourism season in Kalam, where visitors continue to arrive from across the country. Families visiting the region have expressed concern about boating safety and called for stricter regulations to prevent similar accidents in the future.

Officials have urged tourists to follow safety instructions while engaging in water activities and to ensure that boats are operated according to established guidelines. They also emphasized the importance of wearing life jackets and avoiding overcrowded vessels.

District administration officials stated that further updates will be shared as rescue operations continue. The search for the missing family members remains the top priority, with rescue teams determined to cover every possible area until the operation is completed.

The tragedy serves as a reminder of the need for stronger safety measures at tourist destinations where water-based activities are offered. Authorities are expected to review existing regulations and assess whether additional precautions are required to improve visitor safety and reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future.
