ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast mainly hot and dry weather across most parts of the country over the next 24 hours, with heatwave conditions expected to intensify in the plains.
According to the latest weather outlook, isolated rain and thunderstorms are likely in Kashmir and adjoining mountainous areas, while the rest of the country is expected to remain largely dry.
The Met Office has issued a heatwave alert, warning that temperatures will gradually rise across most plain regions from June 9 to June 12. Daytime temperatures in upper parts of the country are likely to remain 4°C to 6°C above normal, while southern and lower regions may experience temperatures 5°C to 7°C higher than seasonal averages.
Extreme heat persisted across several areas on Sunday, with Sibi recording the highest temperature at 49°C. Dadu and Noorpur Thal registered 48°C, while Jacobabad, Sukkur, Khairpur, Turbat and Mohenjo-daro recorded 47°C.
Among major cities, Dera Ghazi Khan reported 46°C, Bahawalpur and Multan 45°C, Lahore and Faisalabad 43°C, Peshawar 42°C, and Islamabad and Muzaffarabad 40°C.
Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated and take precautionary measures as the heatwave is expected to intensify in the coming days.
