CORSIER-SUR-VEVEY (Web Desk) More than 400 fans of legendary filmmaker and actor Charlie Chaplin gathered in Switzerland on Sunday wearing the icon’s signature bowler hats, moustaches and canes to celebrate his enduring legacy.

The event took place at Chaplin’s World, a museum dedicated to the silent film star and located at his former residence in western Switzerland.

Organised to mark the museum’s 10th anniversary, the gathering attracted 429 participants dressed as Chaplin. Although the turnout fell short of the venue’s own world record of 662 lookalikes set in 2017, the atmosphere remained festive and celebratory.

Participants assembled on the grounds of the historic estate and formed a giant number 10 to commemorate a decade since the museum first opened its doors to the public.

Among those attending was French actor Anthony Champeil, who frequently portrays Chaplin on stage. He described the occasion as a joyful tribute to a figure whose work continues to inspire people across generations.

Visitors of all ages took part in the event, including families who dressed young children as miniature versions of the famous actor. Many participants said the gathering reflected the values of kindness, humanity and optimism that Chaplin championed through his films.

Chaplin spent the final 25 years of his life at the Manoir de Ban estate with his wife Oona O’Neill and their children. He remained there until his death in 1977 at the age of 88.

Attendees also paid tribute to some of his most celebrated works, including The Great Dictator, The Kid and Modern Times, which continue to be regarded as classics of world cinema.

Despite not surpassing the existing world record, organisers viewed the event as a success and hinted that another attempt could be made in the future.

They said the primary goal was to honour Chaplin’s legacy and bring together admirers from different backgrounds to celebrate one of cinema’s most influential figures.
