DEHLI (Web Desk) – RJ Balaji’s Karuppu, featuring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan in lead roles, has emerged as one of the biggest Tamil blockbusters of the year, crossing the ₹300 crore mark at the worldwide box office. The film’s impressive commercial success has attracted praise from several leading figures in the film industry, including Aamir Khan, Rajinikanth, and Silambarasan TR.
Speaking about the response to the film, Balaji revealed that Bollywood actor Aamir Khan personally congratulated Suriya through a text message after the release of Karuppu. Suriya later shared the message with the filmmaker. Balaji also disclosed that Rajinikanth reached out to him directly after watching the film. The superstar reportedly praised the movie and celebrated its remarkable achievement, continuing his tradition of encouraging successful films and filmmakers.
The director further shared that Silambarasan TR and several prominent directors from the industry contacted him to appreciate the film. According to Balaji, the support and recognition from fellow artists have been among the most rewarding aspects of the movie’s success.
Released on May 15, Karuppu achieved the ₹300 crore milestone in just 15 days, surpassing the lifetime worldwide collection of Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna’s Varisu, which earned ₹297.55 crore. The film is now among the top-performing Tamil releases in recent years, although it remains behind Amaran, which collected ₹333.67 crore globally.
Despite receiving mixed reviews and facing criticism on social media, Karuppu has managed to strike a chord with audiences. Reflecting on the film’s reception, Balaji credited its strong first half for driving positive word-of-mouth and audience engagement. He acknowledged that while some viewers felt the second half was less story-driven, the film’s overall appeal and emotional connect helped sustain its momentum at the box office.
Karuppu revolves around Karuppusamy, a guardian deity who takes human form as an advocate to fight corruption within the judicial system. Suriya plays the titular character, while Trisha Krishnan portrays Preethi. RJ Balaji also features in the film as the antagonist, Baby Kannan. Combining fantasy elements with a socially relevant theme, the film has become a major commercial success and a significant milestone in the careers of everyone involved.
