Speaking to the nation, the premier said the price of diesel has been reduced from Rs520 to Rs385 per litre, while petrol has been brought down from Rs378 to Rs366per litre. He described the move as part of the government’s broader effort to ease the financial burden on citizens amid rising inflation.
The prime minister stated that the decision was made after careful consideration of global oil prices and the country’s economic situation. He added that the relief would particularly benefit the transport and agriculture sectors, where diesel is widely used.
“This reduction will help bring down the cost of goods and improve economic activity,” he said, expressing hope that it would contribute to stabilising prices of essential commodities.
He also assured the public that the government remains committed to taking further steps to strengthen the economy and provide relief where possible.
The address comes at a time when citizens have been facing increased cost of living, with fuel prices playing a key role in overall inflation.
