LAHORE: Senior leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party and former federal interior minister Aitzaz Ahsan has said a new world order is emerging that could reshape global power dynamics for the next 50 years, potentially excluding the United States and its traditional allies.

He expressed these views while addressing a debate on the Iran-US conflict organised by the Shaheed Bhutto Foundation at the People’s Secretariat in Model Town. The session was moderated by SBF Chairperson Asif Khan and attended by several political and civil society figures.
Aitzaz Ahsan said the emerging global order would move away from unilateral dominance, adding that no single leader or country would be able to act with unchecked authority on the world stage.
Discussing the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, he warned that any conflict involving Iran would not remain limited to the Gulf region but would have far-reaching global consequences. He noted that oil remains a critical commodity for all economies and that such conflicts could accelerate the shift towards alternative energy sources, including solar and wind power.

Referring to regional security dynamics, he said Pakistan must carefully assess its national interests. He remarked that past military engagements have shown that aerial superiority alone does not guarantee success, particularly in conflicts like Afghanistan.
He pointed out that despite prolonged military campaigns by major powers, including Russia and the United States, Afghanistan remained unconquered. He stressed that unconventional warfare and local resistance have historically shaped outcomes in the region.
Aitzaz Ahsan further alleged that India is supporting elements in Afghanistan and emphasised the need for Pakistan to remain vigilant and adopt policies based on strategic national priorities.
Several political workers and leaders, including Rana Ikram Rabbani, Shahida Jabeen, Bushra Malik, Farrukh Sohail Gondal, Aima Iftikhar, Ammar Jan and others, also attended the event.
