ISLAMABAD, October 15, 2025:
In a move aimed at providing relief to the public amid ongoing inflationary pressures, the federal government has announced a reduction in petroleum product prices for the next fortnight. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, the price of petrol has been reduced by Rs5.66 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) has witnessed a decrease of Rs1.39 per litre.
The new prices will take effect from midnight tonight (October 16) and remain applicable until October 31, 2025. Following the revision, the new price of petrol stands at Rs283.14 per litre, while diesel will now be available at Rs287.62 per litre.
The government stated that the reduction in prices was made possible due to a decline in international oil prices and a slight strengthening of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar over the past two weeks. The decision was made in consultation with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), which reviews fuel prices twice a month based on global market trends and exchange rate fluctuations.
Economic experts believe the decrease in petroleum prices will have a marginal but positive impact on transport costs, food inflation, and industrial input expenses. However, they emphasized that sustained stability in global crude oil markets and the rupee’s exchange rate is crucial for maintaining lower fuel prices in the coming months.
The Ministry of Finance reiterated the government’s commitment to passing on the benefits of declining international prices to the public while ensuring that revenue and supply stability are maintained.
This is the second consecutive fortnightly reduction in fuel prices, following a Rs4.50 per litre cut in petrol rates earlier this month.
