LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Sports Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar inaugurated the province’s first-ever open-air gym for inmates at Camp Jail, Lahore. The modern facility, built by the Sports Board Punjab at a cost of Rs. 4 million, aims to engage prisoners in healthy and positive activities.

During the ceremony, the minister inspected the gym equipment, reviewed technical courses being conducted for inmates, and interacted directly with prisoners. He listened to their concerns and encouraged them to make the most of both sports and educational opportunities to prepare for a productive life after release.
Superintendent Jail Zaheer Ahmed Virk briefed the minister on the facilities available inside the prison. The minister expressed satisfaction with the jail administration and directed them to continue providing quality facilities to inmates.
On the occasion, Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar highlighted Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz’s vision, stating: “We must hate the crime, not the human being.” He added that sports and fitness are vital for both mental and physical well-being, and gyms inside prisons can play a major role in rehabilitation, positive thinking, and hope for a better future.
Inmates thanked the Punjab Government and Sports Board Punjab for the initiative, saying that such facilities give them new energy, motivation, and optimism for life beyond bars.
