LAHORE –An important meeting of the Punjab Assembly’s Library Committee was held under the chairmanship of Acting Speaker and Committee Chairman Malik Zaheer Iqbal Chanar, focusing on the transformation of the Assembly Library into a modern, digital knowledge center.

The meeting was attended by Chairman Privileges Committee Samiullah Khan, Members of Assembly Ghulam Raza Rabira, Sardar Owais Ahmed Dareshak, Secretary General Chaudhry Aamir, Secretary Parliamentary Affairs Khalid Mahmood, Librarian Fakhra Parveen, and other relevant officers. Members Sardar Muhammad Ali and Amna Sheikh also participated online.
The committee held in-depth discussions on modernizing the Punjab Assembly Library, promoting research and study, and ensuring digital accessibility for lawmakers.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Malik Zaheer Iqbal Chanar emphasized that the library is more than just a repository—it is a treasure trove of knowledge and wisdom. “We are committed to aligning it with modern requirements. Lack of resources will not stand in the way,” he said, adding that monthly performance reviews would ensure the library stays on track.
Chanar stressed the need to provide legislators with authentic and timely research support, so that the quality of legislation is grounded in sound knowledge and insight.
Members appreciated the chairman’s vision and gave valuable suggestions.

• Amna Sheikh called for turning the library into a digital research center to better serve lawmakers.
• Sardar Owais Ahmed Dareshak emphasized the need for a conducive research environment, suggesting high-speed Wi-Fi, a mobile app, and capacity-building initiatives.
Key agenda points included upgrading library infrastructure, provision of updated books and journals, training research staff, and developing an electronic database.
The committee agreed that the Punjab Assembly Library should evolve into a cutting-edge research facility that supports legislators in crafting informed and effective laws.
