LONDON (Web Desk) — A 31-year-old mathematics teacher in the United Kingdom, previously convicted in a criminal case involving inappropriate conduct with underage students, has now been permanently banned from the teaching profession by a regulatory authority.

According to international media reports, the court was informed that the teacher contacted minors through social media and engaged in unlawful behaviour, which resulted in legal charges and her suspension from her teaching post. Despite the suspension, another allegation of misconduct later emerged.

During court proceedings, a child linked to the case was placed into protective custody on welfare grounds.

Earlier this month, the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) held a virtual hearing to review the matter, which the teacher did not attend. Following the hearing, the regulatory panel recommended that Rebecca Joines be permanently prohibited from teaching. The authority has officially ruled that she cannot work in any school, sixth form college, youth residence, or children’s home across England, and she will also not be allowed to apply for reinstatement in the future.

In its decision, the panel stated that the teacher’s conduct was inconsistent with public trust in the teaching profession and had serious negative effects on the affected children. It further noted that failure to take action in such cases could damage the integrity of the educational sector.

It is worth noting that last July, she had already been sentenced to six and a half years in prison after being found guilty on six legal charges relating to child protection. The new ruling now adds a lifetime teaching ban to her previous punishment.
