LAHORE – The Department of Human Rights & Minority Affairs organized a dignified flag hoisting ceremony to mark Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day. Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Secretary for Human Rights Fareed Ahmad Tarar and Parliamentary Secretary Sonia Asher were also in attendance.
The ceremony commenced with the national anthem, followed by the flag hoisting performed by the Provincial Minister along with distinguished guests. On the occasion, Ramesh Singh Arora planted a tree as a symbol of independence and cut the cake along with the participants.
In his address, Ramesh Singh Arora congratulated the nation on Independence Day, stating that the gift of freedom carries a message of unity, sacrifice, and solidarity. He added that the celebration of Independence Day reminds us of the spirit of service and sacrifice for our country and nation.
The Provincial Minister further said that, in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the rights of religious minorities are being safeguarded across the province, and interfaith harmony is being promoted. He highlighted that, for the first time in Punjab’s history, a “Historic Minority Week” was celebrated with great zeal, during which the Pakistan Armed Forces were paid rich tribute.
“We are proud of our armed forces and salute the sacrifices of our martyrs,” said Ramesh Singh Arora. He reaffirmed that practical steps are being taken to protect the rights of religious minorities, as people of all faiths in Pakistan enjoy complete religious freedom.
He further added that Pakistan’s journey towards progress and prosperity is rapidly moving forward and emphasized that every citizen should play their role with honesty and a spirit of service in their respective fields.
