LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party Lahore Information Secretary Faiza Malik has criticised the Punjab government over rising inflation and increasing prices of essential food items ahead of Eid ul Adha, saying the public is being crushed under the burden of inflation, unemployment and heavy taxation.
In a statement issued on Saturday, she said prices of green spices, ghee, flour, sugar, vegetables and other daily-use commodities were witnessing a sharp increase across Punjab as Eid ul Adha approaches. She alleged that profiteers were openly exploiting citizens while the government remained a “silent spectator”.
Faiza Malik said government institutions had completely failed to control inflation, adding that district administrations, price control committees and other relevant departments were limited to symbolic actions only. She claimed that official price lists were being openly violated in markets without any effective enforcement.
She further said it was becoming increasingly difficult for ordinary people to afford even basic necessities and two daily meals. The PPP leader added that the party would continue to raise its voice for the resolution of public issues and against inflation affecting the common man.
