According to the provincial authorities, misleading and fabricated stories regarding the aircraft are being circulated as part of a deliberate propaganda campaign on social media and other platforms.
Officials said the government will take strict legal action against those responsible and plans to approach the courts against both the individuals and platforms involved in spreading the claims.
The government also confirmed that the case will be pursued under the Defamation Law 2024.
A spokesperson for the Punjab government stated that those involved in spreading fake information would face legal consequences and that attempts to mislead the public would not be tolerated.
He added that instead of simply responding to misinformation, the government has chosen to take direct legal measures and will seek the maximum possible penalties through the courts.
The spokesperson further emphasised that fake news cannot be considered journalism and described the campaign as an attempt to damage the government’s reputation, adding that all those involved will be held accountable.
