Punjab government opens exchequer for bureaucracy in new transport policy

LAHORE, Pakistan — The Punjab government has issued a new transport policy significantly expanding vehicle allowances and fuel entitlements for senior bureaucrats across multiple grades.

Under the revised policy, the Chief Secretary and IG Punjab can use three official vehicles (2800cc, 1800cc, 4700cc). Two vehicles receive 800 liters of fuel monthly, while the 4700cc vehicle has no fuel limit. Previously, senior officers had smaller vehicles (1300–1600cc) with 200 liters of petrol per month.

Grade 20–22 secretaries may use two vehicles (2800cc and 1800cc), with Grade 21–22 officers entitled to 200 liters for personal use and unlimited fuel for official duties. Special secretaries and DIGs (Grades 19–20) get 1600cc vehicles with 250 liters monthly. Deputy secretaries (Grade 18) receive 1500cc vehicles and 175 liters monthly. Staff officers for Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, and ministers get 1300cc vehicles with 125–150 liters fuel.

The policy marks a major increase in bureaucratic perks, raising concerns about public spending and priorities.
