LAHORE: the special instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has initiated the installation of panic buttons in women’s colleges to enhance female student safety and ensure swift emergency response. This initiative aims to provide a secure and protected environment for students, enabling them to seek immediate police assistance in case of any potential threat or harassment.
According to details, in the first phase of the project, panic buttons have been installed in 39 women’s colleges and universities in Lahore.
The initiative will be expanded in a phased manner to cover more than 450 women’s colleges across Punjab.
The panic button is designed to instantly alert the Safe Cities Authority’s Central Control Room when pressed during an emergency. Upon receiving the alert, the Virtual Women Police Station will initiate immediate action.
This system ensures that the police response is not only swift but also highly effective. Panic button facilities already exist at 122 key locations in Lahore and at 101 other important points across Punjab. Now, this critical safety infrastructure is being extended to educational institutions, ensuring female students feel safer and have access to a reliable, rapid-response system in emergencies.
This facility is also available to citizens who may not have access to a mobile phone during an emergency. By pressing the panic button, they can instantly request police assistance.
Punjab Safe Cities Authority continues to utilize modern technology to enhance the safety and security of students and academic institutions, turning the vision of a Safe Punja into a reality.
