ISLAMABAD (Web Desk)-Mohsin Naqvi, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, has reportedly been invited to attend the upcoming International Cricket Council meetings and the final of the Indian Premier League in India later this month. However, his participation in the visit will depend on approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The invitation comes at a significant time for international cricket administration, as several important topics are expected to be discussed during the ICC meetings. The first phase of the discussions will begin virtually on May 21 with the ICC Chief Executives’ Committee meeting, followed by the ICC board meeting scheduled for May 30 and 31 in Ahmedabad, India.

If granted permission by the Pakistani government, Mohsin Naqvi is expected to represent Pakistan at the high-level gathering, where cricket officials from across the world will deliberate on the future direction of the game. The visit would also mark an important diplomatic and sporting engagement between Pakistan and India amid ongoing regional tensions.

One of the key items expected on the agenda is a possible restructuring of the ICC World Test Championship format. Discussions may focus on revising the current requirement that every bilateral Test series in the championship must consist of at least two matches. Cricket boards have reportedly raised concerns regarding scheduling challenges, financial pressures, and maintaining competitive balance within the existing structure.

In addition to format changes, the ICC board is also likely to consider expanding participation in the World Test Championship. The inclusion of teams such as the Zimbabwe national cricket team, Ireland national cricket team, and Afghanistan national cricket team is expected to be part of the discussions. Such a move could provide emerging Test-playing nations with greater opportunities to compete regularly at the highest level of red-ball cricket.

Naqvi’s possible attendance at the IPL final has also drawn attention, given the significance of the tournament in global cricket. The event is considered one of the sport’s biggest annual spectacles, attracting leading players, administrators, and stakeholders from around the world.

A final decision regarding the PCB chairman’s visit is expected after consultations at the government level in Islamabad.
