Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first, putting Pakistan’s batting line-up to the test as the hosts look to build on their opening-match victory and secure the series with a game to spare.
Pakistan lead the series 1-0 after defeating Sri Lanka by four wickets in the first T20I. Another win would give the home side an unassailable advantage, while a Sri Lankan victory would set up a series decider in the final match.
The hosts will draw confidence from their successful chase in the opening encounter, when they reached a target of 183 with seven balls remaining.
Sahibzada Farhan led Pakistan’s batting effort with an impressive 89, while Maaz Sadaqat contributed 50 off 29 deliveries. Their performances helped Pakistan overcome Sri Lanka’s total of 182 for eight.
Sri Lanka will be keen to address the shortcomings exposed in the first match and put Pakistan under pressure early in their innings. By choosing to field, the visitors will aim to restrict the hosts to a manageable total before attempting to level the series with a successful chase.
For Pakistan, the challenge will be to make effective use of the opportunity to bat first and post a competitive score. Their performance with the bat could prove crucial in determining whether they clinch the series on Sunday or leave the contest open for the final match.
With Pakistan chasing a series victory and Sri Lanka fighting to stay in contention, the second T20I carries significant importance for both sides.
