Lahore– Mian Abuzar Shad, a seasoned businessman and former Vice President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), has been elected as the President of LCCI for the term 2024-25. This marks a historic victory for Shad, as it is the first time in several decades that a Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) candidate has won the presidency without the backing of the LCCI Founders Group.
Shad will offiially assume office following the LCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday (October 1), succeeding the outgoing president and ushering in a new era of leadership for one of Pakistan’s most influential business chambers.
Shad’s election is being hailed as a significant shift in the dynamics of the chamber, with many pointing to his long-standing contributions to Lahore’s business community and his expansive business portfolio. The newly elected president brings decades of experience from his leadership roles in M/s Abuzar Group of Companies, which has interests in food grain trading, textiles, and real estate development.
In his victory speech, Shad expressed his gratitude to the business community and emphasized his commitment to advocating for pro-business policies, improving trade relations, and addressing the challenges faced by industrialists and traders in the current economic climate.
“This is not just a win for me or PIAF. This is a win for every businessperson who believes in transparency, merit, and collective growth. I am determined to work towards the betterment of our business environment and to ensure LCCI continues to play a pivotal role in Pakistan’s economic progress,” Shad remarked.
Shad’s rise to the presidency is being viewed as a pivotal moment in LCCI’s history, as it reflects the growing influence of independent and business-minded persons who are focused on industrial growth and modernization. His election victory, despite not having the traditional backing of the Founders Group, showcases the increasing desire for fresh perspectives within the chamber.
With a legacy of accomplishments in the business world, including the establishment of Abuzar Grinding Mills, Victoria Fabrics, and real estate ventures such as Abuzar Towers, Shad is expected to bring his strategic vision and deep industry knowledge to his new role. His leadership positions in various trade associations, including his tenure as Chairman of the Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate, have earned him a reputation for being an advocate of industrial development and small business growth.
