LAKKI MARWAT (Agencies) – At least nine people, including two traffic police officials, were martyred and 33 others injured in a blast in Serai Naurang tehsil of Lakki Marwat district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday.
Police officials said the deceased included traffic personnel identified as Adil Jan and Rahatullah. Initial reports had placed the death toll lower, but it was later revised by district authorities.
According to Deputy Commissioner Hameedullah Khan, explosives were reportedly planted inside a rickshaw. The injured were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, with several critically wounded referred to Bannu and Peshawar for advanced treatment.
Rescue teams and police quickly reached the scene, cordoned off the area and began collecting evidence. Visuals from the site showed damage to nearby shops and vehicles.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the loss of lives and ordered an inquiry, reaffirming the government’s resolve to eliminate terrorism.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi also sought a report from the provincial police chief and directed authorities to ensure the best medical care for the injured.
The incident follows a recent deadly attack in Bannu, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the region. Authorities said investigations are underway to determine those responsible.
