LAHORE: Lahore police have stepped up their crackdown against aerial firing and the possession of illegal weapons ahead of Christmas and the New Year, arresting 496 suspects over the past 20 days to maintain law and order in the provincial capital.

According to a police spokesperson, five individuals involved in aerial firing were also arrested during the ongoing operation, while 501 cases were registered at different police stations across the city. Law enforcement agencies recovered a large cache of illegal weapons, including 11 rifles, 451 pistols and 24 guns, from the arrested suspects.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana said a zero-tolerance policy would be strictly enforced against aerial firing and the public display of weapons, particularly on New Year’s night. He added that indiscriminate action would continue against those involved in the possession, use and sale of illegal arms.
The CCPO also warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals who promote weapons on social media. He urged citizens to respect the law and cooperate with the police to ensure a peaceful festive season.
