India secure six-wicket victory over Pakistan in Asia Cup clash

India have defeated Pakistan by six wickets in the second match of the Asia Cup T20 Super Four stage.

Pakistan set a target of 172 runs for India, which the visitors successfully chased down in the 19th over, losing four wickets along the way.

By the 11th over, India had reached 106 runs for the loss of two wickets. The first Indian batsman to fall was Shubman Gill, who scored 47 runs before being bowled by Faheem Ashraf.

Earlier, in a high-stakes clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to field first, sending Pakistan to bat under the floodlights.

Toss and Playing XI

Pakistan was sent in to bat first, with two changes made to their lineup for the match.

Pakistan innings

Openers Fakhar Zaman and Sahibzada Farhan started aggressively, applying early pressure on India’s bowling attack. However, Fakhar was the first to fall at 21 runs, caught behind after scoring 15 off 9 balls. The next wicket fell at 93 when Saim Ayub was dismissed for 21, soon followed by Hussain Talat, who scored just 10 runs.

Reasons for Pakistan’s Loss

Here are some of the key reasons Pakistan lost today’s match against India in the Asia Cup, based on available match reports:

Batting Collapse / Poor Start

  1. Pakistan lost early wickets, especially in the top order. They were in trouble by the halfway mark of their innings with multiple batsmen dismissed cheaply, which put pressure on the rest of the batting lineup.

  2. Struggle against Spin
India’s spinners—particularly Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel—were effective in exploiting the pitch conditions and broke partnerships when Pakistan looked to build momentum.

  3. Lack of Depth in Batting
After early wickets, there wasn’t enough of a response from the middle order. While there were a few individual efforts (e.g. Sahibzada Farhan and a late cameo from Shaheen Afridi) those weren’t enough to put up a big total.

  4. India’s Efficient Chase
Once India got the target, they chased it down in relatively few overs. The top order did well, and India’s strategy in chasing was solid with minimal risk.

  5. Momentum & Pressure
Early wickets and a low total put Pakistan under constant pressure. India’s bowlers kept the pressure by taking regular wickets. Under pressure, Pakistan couldn’t build partnerships.

  6. Fielding / Extras / Small Marginal Losses
While not always highlighted as the main reason, often such losses involve giving away too many extras, or dropping chances—little things that add up.
