In a vibrant display of unity and cultural inclusion, BARGAD organization for Youth Development celebrated Diwali in Lahore, bringing together people from diverse faiths to promote peace, mutual respect, and interfaith harmony in solidarity with Pakistan’s Hindu community.

The event began with the lighting of traditional oil lamps (diyas), followed by a Diwali prayer and a reflection by Pandit Bhagat Lal on the festival’s spiritual meaning the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. The ceremony was graced by Provincial Minister Minorities Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora as the Chief Guest, along with Parliamentary Secretary for HR&MA Sonia Ashir and MPA Farzana Abbas.
Speaking on the occasion, Provincial Minister Ramesh Singh Arora reaffirmed the Punjab government’s commitment to protecting the rights of minorities and ensuring equal opportunities for all citizens. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Government of Punjab is working to safeguard the social, economic, and religious rights of every citizen,” he said. “The CM Punjab Minority Card is a historic initiative providing financial support to disadvantaged non-Muslim communities, including Christians, Hindus, and Sikhs.

Parliamentary Secretary Sonia Ashir recalled Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s speech of August 11, 1947, emphasizing freedom of religion and equality for all. Quaid envisioned a Pakistan where every citizen, regardless of faith, enjoys full rights and dignity. Celebrations like these are a true reflection of that vision,” she said.
MPA Farzana Abbas highlighted that every Pakistani has an equal role in building a peaceful and prosperous nation. Events like this strengthen social harmony and demonstrate that Pakistan’s identity is rooted in respect and inclusion,” she remarked.
Representatives from the NCHR appreciated Bargad’s efforts in fostering interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence. Ms. Asma from Messaque Center lauded the event, stating that “such gatherings nurture peace and shared belonging among citizens. The celebration also featured cake cutting, distribution of sweets and fruits, and a vegetarian dinner, creating an atmosphere of joy, togetherness, and shared cultural appreciation. Concluding the event, Bargad’s Program Coordinator, Rabia Dar thanked all guests and participants. Allama Asghar Chishti, Allama Mahmood Ghaznavi, Pastor Samuel, Pastor Asif Khokhar, Local Peace Structures Members from eight union councils, Students from Punjab University and members of Hindu, Sikh, Christian, and Muslim communities also attended the celebration, reflecting Pakistan’s cultural richness and diversity.
