According to colleagues, one of the affected staff members, Assistant Atique Ahmed, reportedly suffered a heart attack due to prolonged workplace stress and was admitted to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology, where he recently underwent bypass surgery. His family and coworkers have expressed deep frustration and are demanding accountability.
Employees claim that the Head Clerk is known for maintaining a discriminatory work environment. Those considered to be in her favor allegedly enjoy leniency regarding attendance and conduct, while others are routinely subjected to show-cause notices or disciplinary action for minor issues. Furthermore, several officials allege that commercial meter files and sensitive documents are mishandled, and honest staff members face undue pressure if they do not comply with informal demands.
It is also alleged that official protocols are bypassed in the processing of connections for certain housing schemes and commercial entities. Staff claim that internal complaints and disciplinary matters are selectively managed, and files are sometimes withheld or delayed depending on the relationship with the accused.
In response to the allegations, Executive Engineer (XEN) Shehzad Chattha said:
“I will take cognizance of the matter and hold an inquiry. If the Head Clerk is found guilty, departmental action will be taken according to LESCO’s rules and procedures.”
The staff members urge the LESCO Chief Executive Officer Ramzan Butt to take notice of the situation and initiate an impartial inquiry. They emphasize that protecting the mental well-being and dignity of employees is essential to maintain a fair and functional workplace.
