LAHORE: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), United Business Group (UBG) and Businessmen Panel (Progressive) organized the “First Inaugural Dialogue on District and Sectoral Economy Session” at Governor House Lahore.

The event was addressed by Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh, UBG/FPCCI Patron-in-Chief SM Tanveer, Senior Vice President FPCCI Saquib Fayyaz Magoon, Vice President and Regional Chairman Zaki Aijaz, Former President FPCCI Zubair Tufail and other leaders.
The event was attended by newly elected presidents and group leaders of all Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Small Chambers, Women’s Chambers, and Joint Chambers.
Addressing the participants, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider expressed that our industries suffer due to Independent Power Producers (IPPs). The issue of IPPs was highlighted due to the efforts of FPCCI, and Five IPPs will be closed, and more will be closed. Like Russia, we must also strengthen our legs to deal with IPPs.
Governor Punjab said that things are improving and that we will not need to look to the IMF. The tax system allows you to put the noose that fits your neck. We have to respect the taxpayers.
FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh and UBG Patron-in-Chief SM Tanveer, while addressing the participants, said that the FPCCI Advisory Board is working Day and night on the district and sectoral economy because the promotion of the district economy and sectoral economy is essential for the development of the country’s economy when the economy of a district is solid and local industries, all sectors, businesses and other economic activities improve, which increases employment opportunities in the area and reduces poverty.
Atif Ikram said every district has different natural resources, a different workforce, and different industries. Better utilization of these resources promotes economic development at the local level and helps maintain financial stability at the national level.
He said that Punjab will have to adopt a coordinated approach to create a better business environment and encourage FDI in the province to meet the new trade regime’s challenges and demands.
